#1: Pink Sand Beaches in Crete
Crete is home to many beautiful beaches, as it is the largest of Greece’s islands. If you visit Crete, you should make it a point to visit one of Crete’s gems which is its highly rare, pink beaches. Pink beaches are extremely rare. There are under ten pink in the entire world, in places like the Bahamas, Barbuda, Indonesia, California, Maui, Spain, and Crete! You can visit these pink beaches in places such as:
- Elafonissi
- Balos
#2: Stray Animals travel all over Greece
It is very common for animals to be stray in Greece. While on my trip, I saw a bunch of animals roaming the mainland and the islands just as the travelers do. I felt so bad for them, but it seems that the locals take care of them by feeding them and giving them a place to sleep.
#3: Climb Mount Olympus
Mt. Olympus is the highest point in Greece. In Greek mythology, it was the home of the Gods and the peak of Stefani was considered “Zeus’s Throne.” Mt. Olympus has views over both land and the Mediterranean Sea. It is estimated that about 10,000 people climb Mt. Olympus each year. Tourists can take several different trails as they trek up the mountain. Adding a guide will enhance your experience and these guides may even know local secrets and cultural destinations that only they can provide.
#4: Visit the Cave of Melissani of Kefalonia
Situated just outside Sami, the Cave of Melissani has an appeal too tourists. It is one of the most significant places for tourists to visit in Greece. Surprisingly, there is a lake inside the cave that has trees and forests surrounding it. Tourists can take boats to this lake and explore, swim, and discover the beautiful aspects of nature.
